7- River Clean Up- We will float from Oak Grove Park to Hawarden and clean up the river. 9am-(?all day) Bring your canoe or kayak or sign up early for a spot in one of our canoes. 712/552-3057. Please bring water and sack lunch.

3, 10, 17, 24- Hunter Education Class-ages 11 and older, Hawarden Fire Station. 7pm-9:30pm. Must attend all 4 classes, call 712/552-1047 to pre-register. Other class listings www.iowadnr.gov

1- Sign up for Sandhill Crane Bus Tour this month-March 26-27 see ad

4- Monarch Program-meet at 1st parking area, Deer Run Campground Oak Grove Park. Family program to tag monarchs on their journey to Mexico. No cost. Cancelled if rain.

7- Campers register for Trick or Treat Hike-call 712/552-1047. No other phone will be used to register, no walk ins. Calls taken starting at 8am. This is to reserve for camping for Oct. 9 event. You may only register yourself and one other camper.

11- Women In the Outdoors-Open to ages 14 and up (ages 14-17 with adult). Lake Pahoja, Inwood. 8am-4:30pm. Courses include Dutch Oven, turkey call making, wildlife area tour, archery, bee keeping, basic mechanics. Cost is $35, includes lunch. Hosted by National Wild Turkey Federation and Lyon, Sioux, and O'Brien County Conservation Boards. 9- Trick or Treat Hike-Join the Sioux County Conservation Board and Hawarden Recreation Dept. for an evening of Halloween celebration! Ages 12 and under are invited to trick or treat in costume at Oak Grove Park. You will start at the river and walk a luminary lit trail to Deer Run Campground. Trick or Treat at the campsites, and then make your way back down to the bonfire for snacks! No pre-registration needed. Listen to KSOU 93.9 FM for weather cancellations. Trick or Treating is from 6 - 8:00pm. Any campers wanting to reserve a spot for the Trick or Treat Hike may do so starting at 8am on September 7th at 712/552-1047. You may only register yourself and one other camper by phone and no walk-ins.

23- Youth Mentor Pheasant Hunt -Sponsored by the Sioux Prairie Pheasants Forever and Sioux County Conservation Board. This event is open to kids ages 12-15, who have passed their hunter education courses. The day starts with a review of hunting safety by a conservation officer, then a trap shoot. Each kid will go into the field with a mentor and hunting dog, and the morning ends with a lunch and sharing hunting stories. There is no cost, but only a limited number of kids will be taken. 6- Leopold Education Project for Educators/Youth Leaders-The LEP is a program based on the teachings of Aldo Leopold. It teaches conservation and instills a respect for nature through hands-on activities in the outdoors. Have your students flying in a "V" formation; examine the life of a tree; look for signs of flooding and the miracles that result. 9am-5pm, Oak Grove Park. Register by Oct. 27, Sioux Prairie Pheasants Forever will cover cost for first 10 Sioux County participants. 712/552-3057.
