Sioux Prairie Youth Banquet

Hunter Education

Date: August 4, 11, 18, and 25, 2009
Location: Hawarden Fire Station

  • For ages 11 and over. Anyone born after Jan 1, 1972 must have passed this course to obtain an Iowa hunting license.
  • Participants must attend all 4 classes. Pre-registration is required. 712/552-3057


Big Sioux River Clean up

Date:August 22, 2009

  • Public is invited to assist in a canoe float and clean up of the Big Sioux River from Oak Grove Park toHawarden. Pre-register by calling 712/552-3057. Start time 9am, please bring water and sack lunch.

Women In the Outdoors

Date: September 12, 2009
Location: Prairie Heritage Nature Center, Sutherland, IA

  • Open to ages 14 and up (ages 14-17 must attend with an adult). This event is a great opportunity for women to try new outdoor skills in a supportive environment.
  • Bring along a friend, sister or mom, and enjoy a fun-filled day in the outdoors!
  • Sponsored by the Gobblin’ Ghosts Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation and the Conservation Boards of Lyon, Sioux and O’Brien Counties. This day starts at 8am till 4:30pm. Courses include Dutch Oven Cooking; Marksmanship; Pottery; Bison Program; Flintknapping; Spear Throwing and Archery. Registration is $35 and includes lunch, membership, and all activities. Outdoor Skills Day

Date: October 3, 2009
Location: Oak Grove Park

  • This fun filled day of skills is now open to all ages including youth through adult, families are encouraged to attend.
  • Anyone ages 7 years and under must be accompanied by an adult. This event is located at Oak Grove Park from 8:30am-4pm. Event is sponsored by Sioux County Sportsmen’s Club and Sioux County Conservation Board. New sessions added this year for families. Workshop sessions have included gun deer hunting; turkey hunting; archery; bow deer hunting; waterfowl hunting; upland bird hunting; and trapping. Lunch provided, no cost for event, door prizes included. Pre-registration is required by calling 712/552-3057.

 

Trick or Treat Hike

Date: October 10, 2009
Location: Oak Grove Park

  • Join the Sioux County Conservation Board and Hawarden Recreation Dept. for an evening of Halloween celebration!
  • Ages 12 and under are invited to trick or treat in costume at Oak Grove Park. You will start at the river and walk a luminary lit trail to Deer Run Campground. Trick or Treat at the campsites, and then make your way back down to the bonfire for S’mores! No pre-registration needed. Listen to KSOU 93.9 FM for weather cancellations. Trick or Treating is from 6 - 8:00pm. Any campers wanting to reserve a spot for the Trick or Treat Hike may do so starting at 8am on September 8th at 712/552-1047. You may only register yourself and one other camper by phone and no walk-ins.

 

Pheasant’s Forever Youth Hunt

Date: October 17, 2009
Location: Rock Valley Gun Club

  • Sponsored by the Sioux Prairie Pheasants Forever and Sioux County Conservation Board. This event is open to kids ages 12-15, who have passed their hunter education courses. The day starts with a review of hunting safety by a conservation officer, then a trap shoot. Each kid will go into the field with a mentor and hunting dog, and the morning ends with a lunch and sharing hunting stories. There is no cost, but only a limited number of kids will be taken.
