Swimming pier at Big Sioux Recreation Area

This area is located just South of Hawarden. Entrance is located off of west 10th Street. The Big Sioux Recreation area is 270 acres, 90 acres of water for fishing, boating activities (no wake), swimming beach, and camping. There are 16 gravel camp sites all sites available on a first come first served basis. All sites have electrical and water hook ups, modern comfort station available at the entrance of the campground for those enjoying the swimming beach and the campground. Playground equipment is located central of the campground. Primitive weapon hunting is allowed at this area outside of city limits. There are a couple of open shelters located throughout the park. These are available on a first come first served basis. Vehicle passes are required for this area. The same pass may be used at Sandy Hollow Recreation Area. Passes are good for the current calendar year; passes are $20 annual additional vehicle passes may be purchased with in the house hold for an additional $10. Day passes are $5. education programs.
